DUNSANDEL

BOWLING ASSOCIATION'S

ANNUAL SOCIAL.

Dunsandel has been the Ellesmere Bowling Association's Centre for the season just Concluded and, following the usual custom, the association's social, at which the trophies won during the season were presented, was held last night in the Dunsandel Town Hall. There was a fairly good attendance, which included representatives from the three district clubs, Dunsandel, Leeston and Southbridge. The arrangements for the evening were left to the president and secretary of the association, Messrs H. A. Brown and H. Wright Johnson, and the members of the Dunsandel Club. Everything possible was done to ensure a pleasant evening. For the dancing Mr Fred Smith's Orchestra supplied music, which gave complete satisfaction to all present. Assistance with extras was given by Mr B. D. Watson, and Mr R. J. Caldwell performed the duties of master of ceremonies. Prizes for a lucky spot waltz went to Miss Chamberlain and Mr L. Washbourne. Until supper time the anteroom was reserved for euchre players, a good number taking part in the games. Mrs Macpherson and Mr H. F. Wright were the most successful players. _ After supper Mr H. A. Brown, president of the association, extended a cordial welcome to the many visitors and expressed the hope that all present would spend^a very enjoyable evening. He mentioned that apologies for absence had been received from the president (Mr A. E. Withell) and from the patron (Mr J. Boag). After commenting briefly on the success of the season's play, Mr Brown presented the association's trophies. The list is as follows:— Association Trophies. London rooster for inter-club competition— Dunsandel B team. This trophy was presented 30 years ago by the late Mr R. London, and has been competed for ever since. Champion singles (Boag Cup and certificate)—W. J. Ormandy (Leeston). Champion doubles (trophies and certificates) —R. Shave and E. A. Johnson (Leeston). Champion rink (Boag Shield and certificates) —A. Tong, R. J. Parkin, J. H. Hampton and D. W, Hayes (Southbridge). Each player received a miniature shield. Christmas tournament doubles held at Leeston—L. Blair and H. A. Brown (Dunsandel). Leeston Club Trophies. Mr W. J. Ormandy apologised for the unavoidable absence of Mr L. C. Vicary, president of Leeston Club, and on his behalf presented the club trophies. The winners were:— Champion singles—W. J. Ormandy. Champion doubles—R. Shave and E. A. Johnson. Handicap doubles—R. Shave and L. J. Walker. Handicap singles—J. Lill. Rink competition—J. Lill, Dr. B. Volckman, H. D. Jones and W. J. Ormandy (s). Dunsandel Club. In the absence of Mr A. E. Withell, president, Mr H. A. Brown presented the Dunsandel Club's trophies as follows:— Champion singles—N. J. Brown. Handicap singles (Case Cup)—N. J. Brown. Last year's winner, H. A. Brown, received a miniature cup. I Champion doubles—J. H. Tylei and E. J. Chatterton. Champion rink—A. Mcßae, R. J. Caldwell, O. J. Gardiner and H. A. Brown (s). Easter tournament doubles—L. W. Blair and J. H. Tyler. Closing day doubles (trophies donated by Canterbury Frozen Meat Co.)—A. Mcßae and H. A. Brown. The Arthur Rose Cup, a handsome trophy won by the' Ellesmere Association in the annual match with the Canterbury Club, was also on view. HOCKEY CLUB'S BALL. One of the most popular functions of the season at Dunsandel is the Women's Hockey Club's annual ball. Proof of its popularity is found m the fact that it invariably attracts a large attendance. This year's ball is to be held next Thursday evening in the Town Hall, and the club extends a cordial invitation to the people of all the surrounding districts. Thorough preparations are being made to ensure a happy time for all who intend to be present. In addition to first-class music, the members are giving special attention to the supper arrangements. The secretary is Miss Grace Walker.
