LEESTON STOCK SALE
TO-DAY'S RANGE 2OF PRICES.
There was a large yarding of fat pigs at to-day's stock sale at Leeston, but prices were lower. Porkers sold from 24/- and 26/- to 32/- and 33/6; there were no large porkers. Baconers sold from 42/-, 50/-, 52/6 to £3/3/- and £3/3/6. There was a large yarding of store pigs, but in this department also lower prices ruled. Weaners sold from 5/- to1 8/-, slips 7/- to 9/-, small stores 9/- to 11/-, medium 12/- to 14/-, good 15/----to 18/-. A sow in pig fetched 57/6, and sows with litters 55/- to £3 and £3/15/-.
About 800 sheep were yarded, mostly aged breeding ewes, with a few pens of younger sorts. Competition was good, and although the sale was dragging, full recent values were realised and practically the whole of the yarding was disposed of. A pen of 80 store ewes made 12/-, and a pen of 25 Merino wethers 4/9. A line of good-conditioned halfbred ewes, mated with Southdown rams, with fairly level mouths, made 16/9; aged ewes 4/- to 8/-, s.m. ewes from 9/- to 13/6.
