WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

UEESTON BRANCH.

At the monthly meeting x>f the Leeston Women's Institute on Tuesday afternoon, Miss A. Parkin presided over a good attendance. The roll call, "Weather Sayings," produced many different sayings and caused much amusement. A demonstration was given on "Wonder Weave," and the demonstrator, Miss Robinson, of Christchurch, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her instructive address. A vote of sympathy with Mrs L. C. Vicary in her recent bereavement was carried. Farewell to Mrs S. M. Jackman was said by the president on behalf of the. institute. Miss Parkin spoke very appreciatively of the work which Mrs Jackman had been able to do for the institute, a work which had been carried out quietly but most efficiently. Miss Parkin wished both Mr and Mrs Jackman a very happy and prosperous stay in Methven, and, while regretting their departure from Leeston, congratulated Mr Jackman upon his promotion. Mrs Jackman, in thanking the j members' for their good wishes, said that she had been very happy in the institute and all that she had done for it had been a pleasure to her. The competitions resulted:—Best' bloom in garden: Miss V. Bowis 1 and 2, Mrs Martin 3. Ginger cake: Miss V. Bowis 1, Mrs Martin 2.
