MRS S. M. JACKMAN FAREWEIXED.
A P.W.M;U. FUNCTION
At the conclusion of the business at yesterday afternoon's meeting of the Leeston branch of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union, the opportunity was taken to farewell Mrs S. M. Jackman, who is leaving shortly to reside at Methven. Mrs W. O. Rennie, vice-president, who presided in the absence of the .president, Mrs D. N. Pryor, handed to Mrs Jackman a beautiful vase as a token of j-egard from the members. All present, said Mrs Rennie, were exceptionally sorry that Mrs Jackman was leaving Leeston. She had won the esteem of all with whom she had come into contact, and a very cordial welcome would await her whenever she was able to visit the Ellesmere district. Mrs Jackman had taken a very active interest in the affairs, of the P.W.M.U. and Jn the work of the church generally, and was. ever ready to undertake her full share of any work that had to be done. Whatever duties she, undertook were performed in a quiet, unostentatious, yet very efficient manner, and she was one upon whom they could always depend. Much of the .work that Mrs Jackman had performed did not come under the direct notice of the people, but it was, nevertheless, regularly and carefully carried out. She always helped with, the decorating of the church for special occasions, and invariably there was ah ample supply of flowers available from her own garden. Living as she did close to the church, frequent calls were made upon her generosity when things had been overlooked by those taking part in social functions, but she had always responded willingly and promptly, whatever the emergency. Mrs Rennie asked Mrs Jackman to convey to her ; husband the hearty congratulations of the members of the P.W.M-U. upon; j the well-deserved promotion that had come his way. They all wished Mr and Mrs Jackman good health and every happiness in their new home at Methven. Acknowledging the gift and good wishes, Mrs Jackman said she had enjoyed very much her association with the church and the members of the P.W.M.U. and congregation i generally. She had esteemed it a ' privilege to have been able to assist in any phase of the church's activi- [ ties, and wherever she went she would always look upon Leeston as home. • A dainty afternoon tea was served.
