Under the old method of arriving at the winner of the championship at the annual contests of the New Zealand Brass. Bands Association, musical points scored in the quickstep competition counted. For some time past many bandsmen and other musical folk have been of the opinion that this was not altogether sound. There have been cases on record where one band has proved superior to all others in the severe test offered by a well arranged test selection, yet have lost the championship by failing to register as successfully as other bands in the quickstep. Mr H. D. Bennett, chairman of the association, said at Wellington the other day that at the recent conference this shortcoming in the conditions was remedied. Now only the test selections are to count for the championship. The quickstep, however, will not be dropped. It will be a separate contest altogether, .
