ORANGE BALL

AT SOUTHBBIDGE LAST NIGHT.

SMALLER ATTENDANCE THAN USUAL. j Evidence of the fact that young | people are finding it necessary to curtail their pleasures to some extent ! was afforded last night, when the attendance at the annual ball of the True Blue Orange Lodge, held in the Southbridge Town Hall, was much smaller than in recent years. In other respects, however, the ball was quite up to the standard set in the past. It was a very sociable function and all who attended appeared to be out to derive as much enjoyment as possible. Among the visitors were representatives of the Hornby, Rakaia and Leeston Orange Lodges and the Doyleston and Southbridge Druids' Lodges. All the Orangemen, as well as the Druids' representatives, attended in their regalia. The 'pleasing appearance of the dance i room was further enhanced by a display of pictures, emblems and the banner from the lodge room. The dancers were all more than satisfied with the excellent music supplied by Mr C. Wells's orchestra, which provided a very popular programme of music. In addition to discharging the j duties of secretary, Bro. J. H. Hamp- ! ton also acted as M.C. The excellence of the arrangements made to ensure that all who attended the ball would have a capital night's enjoyment is due in large measure to Bro. Hampton's capable organising work. Those associated with him on the ball committee were Bros. J. Patterson, T. Patterson, R. Patterson, D. and H. L. Montgomery, T. Gulliver, A. Church, K. Buckley, B. Buckley and C. McJarrow. The catering, which was entrusted to Mr T. H. Bennett, some of the local ladies and members of the lodge assisting with the serving, was entirely satisfactory. The quality of the edibles was the subject of favourable comment and there was an ample supply. Dancing was continued until the early hours of this morning,
