THE TOM-TIT'S COMPLAINT
They're savage birds, it seems to-me That warble by the L; And now they say we're going to see Some "dead birds there as well. Those councillors swinging in the breeze Will be a fearful sight, With Mudlark croaking in the trees, I won't go there at night. I The councillors' ghosts will prow] about, And haunt the River L; If I meet one when I go out, I '11 squeal, and screech and yell. The vicious Skylark and his pal, ' The doleful old Mudlark Have turned the L into a hell For tame birds after dark. Those wicked larks, we all agree, Are savage birds of prey, And gentle birds like you and me ' Will have to fly away. —TOM-TIT.
