Next Friday nighty the Killinchy Tennis Club will discuss the laying of new courts. Polling to-morrow will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Leeston booth is at the Public School. • Mr Day will run a bus to the Little River Show next Tuesday, ; leaving Southbridge at 8.15 a.m. and Leeston at 8.30. An advertisement to-day announces the opening of a skating rink, at South- -^m' bridge, commencing to-morrow even- >ff ing. Those unaccustomed to this pas> *~ time will be tutored in the 1 art. . In all churches throughout the district last Sunday fitting references were made to the anniversary of Armistice Day, and at 11 a.m. congregations stood in silence for two minutes in memory of those who gave their liv«s in the Great War. At Southbridge Town Hall next Friday the comic opera "The Baron's Holiday," will be presented by local talent, under the- direction of Mr G. A. Couch. The proceeds are to go to the School library fund, and a very enjoyable evening is promised. Miss Havelaar, the newly appointed organising secretary of St. Saviour's Orphanages, is to address meetings in • the Southbridge Parish Hall on Thursday at 3.15 p.m., and at Dunsandel Library on Friday at 2.30,, It is hoped that each meeting will be attended by a large number of those interested in y. the very fine work that is being done by the Orphanages. Next Saturday will be a,special holiday for the district, when the County picnic excursion to Timaru, by a number of schools and lodges will ta£e place. The timetable is advertised to-day, as well as a list of persons authorised to sell tickets. Intending passengers are asked to book as early as possible. The attractions of Timaru- axe manifold, and the excursion should tempt a large number. *- ■ t Instead of posting the results from all booths- in the electorate on a board outside the office, as was possible when the' Eegistrar's office was at Leeston, information will be given out from the Guardian office by radio, through an extra loud speaker. In this way the public will be provided with progress figures from all parts of the Dominion throughout the evening. Any other information received by telephone or "telegra"m will also be given out.
