AQUATIC CLUB
THE ANNUAL MEETING
SUCCESSFUL YEAR'S RECORD
The Ellesmere Aquatie Club held its annual meeting in the -Sedgemere Hall last Saturday evening, Mr F. Alexander presiding over a good attendance.
Before opening the business, the president moved a sincere vote of sympathy with Mr and Mrs D. Muir in the recent loss of their only boy. This was acknowledged by members standing.
The report stated that the thirteenth annual regatta had not brought with it the proverbial bad luck, as the results on the day were quite satisfactory. The takings at the gate were considerably less than in the record year of 1927, the swimming and rowing events were on a par with last year, but the chief increase occurred in the athletic events, which included the tugs-of-war. A credit of £12/4/9 was recorded on the day. During last year, an enclosure for the tug-of-war events and a dressing shed for competitors had been erected, these proving a boon to spectators, and "competitors alike. The thanks of the Club were tendered to members who assisted in the erection of buildings and so forth, thus saving considerable expense.
The balance-sheet revealed a credit of £52/5/10, which, in view of the work completed, was considered satisfactory. The report and balance-sheet were adopted on the motion of Mr A. McLaughlin, seconded by Mr W. Quigley. In the matter of providing boat own- | ers with financial aid for running" excursion trips, Messrs W. Quigley and |F. Alexander stated that they would
waive their claims. The following ofiicers were elected: Patrons, Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, K.8.E., M.L.C., and Messrs D. Jones, M.P., and R. M. Taiaroa; president,, Mr A. W.'
