SPRING SHOW

HELD AT SOUTHBRIDGE THIS

AFTERNOON.

MAGNIFICENT DISPLAY OF FLOWERS.

Southbridge is to-day a centre of great activity. Since the early morning High street, for a length of several chains in the vicinity of the Town Hall, has-been lined on both sides 'with double rows of motor cars from.which energetic folk have been conveying exhibits of flowers, cookery, industrial work, produce, etc., to the Hall.. For this i s the day of the annual spring show of the Presbyterian Church, an event that ranks as one of the best spring shows in North Canterbury. As in previous years, splendid entries have been received, thanks very largely to the excellent oranising work of the hon. secretary, _Mrs F. W. Scott, who is a great enthusiast. In regard to quality, the standard of previous years has been more than maintained, particularly in the cut blooms section, in spite of the weather drawbacks, and the judges were highly complimentary in their remarks concerning the exhibits. In every respect the show is a credit to the district. In the unavoidable absence of Mr D. Jones, M.P., whose Parliamentary duties have kept him in Wellington, the show was: officially declared open by his daughter, Miss Jones. Awards: CUT BLOOMS. Stewards: Miss Lewis/Mrs F.
