SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION AT LINCOLN.

FAREWELL TO REV. C. L. AND MRS. WILSON AND FAMILY.

Yesterday afternoon the nicely sheltered and exceedingly well kept grounds of the Lincoln Church of England Vicarage were the scene of a very successful garden party and daffodil fair, promoted by the congregations in the Springston and Lincoln portions of [the parish, to aid the general funds of the church. Bright sunny weather favoured the function, the hedges and shrubs providing ample shelter from the fresh southerly breeze. Tents were provided to accommodate several stalls, which were heavily laden with a great variety of desirable goods. The attendance was very good for* an afternoon function.

In the unavoidable absence of the Hon. Sir Heaton Ehodes, M.L.C., from whom a telegram of apology was received, the vicar, the Eev. C. L. Wilson, formally declared the fete open for business. Mr Wilson spoke of the interest which Sir Heaton and Lady Rhodes had always manifested in the affairs of the parish. They were ever ready to assist in connexion with such functions as the one being held that afternoon and had been most generous in giving a magnificent collection of daffodils for the flower stall. The parishioners all regretted the absence of Sir Heaton and Lady Rhodes. They would also be very sorry to hear that Lady Rhodes had been seriously ill, It was their sincere wish that she would soon be quite well again. After referring briefly to the good work performed by the parishioners in getting together such a fine lot of goods, Mr Wilson declared the fete open and expressed himself as confident that the financial result would be satisfactory to all concerned. Business at the various stalls immediately began in earnest, and it soon became evident that a complete clearance would be effected. The beautiful flowers from "Otahuna," with which the flower stall was well stocked, were much admired by all the visitors. Following is a list of the stallholders:— Flowers—Mesdames A. J. K. Smither, G. Mcßean, C. N. C. Powell and A. Mcßean. Sweets and ice creams: Mesdames G. Peryman and T. J. Kimber and Miss Smith. Variety: Mesdames E. J. Cooke, E. H. Rowell, H. Mills and Miss G.
