COUNTY WORKS

THE ENGINEER'S REPORT,

Mr S. R. Wright, county engineer, reported as follows to the Ellesmere County Council yesterday:— Irwell riding.—The following contractors have completed- their drain cleaning contracts: A. Greenwood, Buckley's road drain; H. Greaves, Boag's frontage drain, and Wagner's drain is about completed; J. Heslop, T. W. Brooks and Mrs W. B. Qunningham's frontage drains have been completed. Mr Burnett has been engaged metal patching on Tramwuy Reserve road, the road alongside the Dunsandel School, main Dunsandel and Killinehy roads. The Lake road, also Lake and Selwyn-Lake roads have been graded, also the Dunsandel road towards Killinchy is being graded.

Leeston riding.—Mr Greaves has finished his Doyleston main, drain contract. Mr Pearee has finished Anderson's drain and is now doing the drain from Harris's ' corner to Killinchy Creamery. The outlet ends of.Doyleston drain and Hanmer road drain, and the Canterbury Seed Company's drain have been cleaned by day labour. Metal patching has been done on Tramway road and Hart's road. Southbridge riding.—The following drains have been cleaned by xday labour: Inwood's, McPherson's road and Tautnutu drains. Metal patching has been done on Tramway road ? Adams's,

SollittV and Railway road at tho Dunsandel end of the riding, and Cooper's road. Main highways.—The EllesmereSouthbridge highway has been patched between Irwell and the Selwyn bridge and graded throughout. • The Lake Road-Yankee Crossing highway has been graded, also Jollies road. The Leeston-Rakaia road .is being patched between Lee'ston and Carroll's corner. > ■ ' The quantity of jmetal placed on roads during the month is 834^ cubic yards.
