THE FROG POND

REQUEST TO COUNTY COUNCIL.

TREES TO BE PLANTED

Yesterday Air F. Rowell waited upon the Ellesmere County Council, as requested by the Ellesinere A. and P. Association at its last meeting, with a suggestion that something should be. done to improve the appearance of the Council's shingle reserve at the entrance to the Show Ground. For a long time the reserve had been in a very unsightly condition and it was felt that, as it was situated alongside the main Christehurek-gourhbridge •highway, and the entrance to t&e prin--cipal town in the, district something should be done to improve its appearance, particularly in view, of tli<i_ improvements made in the town in recent years. At present it was a dumping ground for all sorts of things, front petrol tins and hoop^ron to dead cats. Mr Lowell suggested 'thkt levelling might be done in some, places, and that pinus insignis and willow**shoufd be planted to hide'thc shingle pitJ from view. ' , - Cr. Heslop said it was not advisable Ito plant right up.toUhe apex of the triangle, as> the trees might obstruct a clear view of the railway line. Cr. Quigley that about two years ago- the matter had, been brought before the Council by Cr. J. Nixon, and it had been decided to plant weeping willows.

"While it is a strictly utilitarian reserve so far as the Council is concerned, I think something should be done on the lines suggested by Mr Rowell,". said the chairman.

Cr. Heslop moved and Cr. Anderson seconded that the chairman and Cr.' Quigley should inspect the 'reserve; with power to. have planting and other work done if deemed advisable.—Carried.
