ATHLETIC CLUB MEETING,

Mr N. G. Dalzell (president) was in the chair at a meeting of the committee of,the Southbridge Athletic Club, and there was a good attendance.

With, the approval of the Canterbury Centre of the ST.Z. Athletic and Cycling Union, Saturday, September 22, was fixed upon as the date for the an- j nual road race. This will be a fortnight before the Timaru-Christchureh race. • '. The course and prize money decided r upon are the same as for last year's event. Mr W. J. Walter, Chri.stch'urch, ,was appointed starter and timekeeper, and other officials appointed were as fol- . low: Course stewards, Jenkins's corner, Mr P. E. Stevenson; Hart'sbridge corner, Messrs W. C. Eggelton and P. - Harney; Leeston Courthouse corner, Mr P. J, Kelleher; mill bridge corner, Mr W. N. Parkin; Bishop's corner, Mr J. Hannah. Collectors: Soufibridge, Messrs G. Hill and G. Hampton; Leeston, Mr H. D. Jones. ■ Last year's judges were re-appointed and the following committee was set up to canvass for donations: The president, secretary (Mr D. W. Hayes) and Messrs J. Griffin, J. T. Parkin and Gr. Ridden. Mr W. J. Kemp was elected a member of the Club. It was decided to hold a series of euchre and dance socials, the first to take plare on Saturday, July 21. Last week-end the Club spread a ton of weed-killer on the racing track in /v^the Eeereation Ground
