HORSE FAIR
ANNUAL FIXTURE AT LEESTON.
TOP PRICE £60 10s.
t That there is still-a good demand | amongst farmers for" sturdy, sound | young draught horses was shown at j Leeston yesterday, when the annual Eljlesmere Horse Fair, held by Messrs H. Matson and Co., the N.Z., Farmers' Cooperative Association and Messrs Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., in conjunction, took place in a paddock adjoining the saleyards. There was a I good attendance, many buyers from other districts being amongst those present, but the entry of horses was not as large as in previous years. Competition for the better class of young broken draughts was quite good and a very satisfactory percentage of sales was made, indicating that the vendors were satisfied with the prices offering. The top price for draughts was obtained by Messrs Matson and Co. for a four-year-old mare sold for Mr E. G. Wright, of Dunsandel, which realised £60 10s. She was a well-proportioned, active mare; and met with keen competition. The demand for hacks was not at all brisk, and vendors had to be content with low prices in order to quit.
