ENGINEER'S REPORT,

At yesterday's meeting of the Ellesmere County Council the engineer, Mr S. R. Wright, presented the' following

report:—

Irwell riding.—The contractor for carting shingle to dumps from Chamberlain's pit has put out 347 cubic yards of shingle and has also done some patching on the Brookside-Doy-leston road and Brookside-Irwell road, and Sclwyn-Lake road, and has carted shingle for the culvert at the junction of Hanmer and Main road. Messrs ! Breading and Shellock repaired the Tramway road at Dunsandel, two double teams being engaged for 7| days. Mr Mitchell has been grading on Dunsandel-Killinchy road two days and Dunsandel-Brookside road 4i days. The concrete pipes for culvert at Eddy's are on the ground ready to be put in. The contract for widening Hanmer road drain will be completed

in a few days. Leeston riding. —Mr Mitchell has graded the Dunsandel-Killinchy road 4J days. Mr Johnson has cut the drain through the shingle bank from his property to the lake. Mr Hood was engaged four days repairing Anderson's road with a double team. Some patching has been done on the Leeston-Lake and Ridge Boundary road. Southbridge riding.—The contractor for shingling McLaughlin's road has completed his contract, having put out 373 cubic yards. Pohn 's road has been repaired and repairs have also been made to the bad places on Oakleigh road.

In regard to Mr Barker's application for increased width of section at Rakaia Huts, to comply with the requirements of the Health Department, it would require a further 15 feet. There are two adjoining sections unlet, of 60 feet frontages. These could be reduced in width by 1\ feet each.
