SCHOOL COMMITTEE

LAST NIGHT'S MEETING.

The members present at last night's meeting of the Leeston School Committee were Messrs J. C. Free (acting chairman), T. J. Fussell (hon. sec), G. H. Ryde and D. H. Reid. In reply to a question asked by the chairman concerning the excursion finances, the secretary stated that there was enough money to cover the cost of the children's train tickets .and other expenses. The excursion had been a great success, though the adult population of Leeston had not turned out as well as he had expected. Arrangements are to be made with Mr E. Milner to cart a supply of fine gravel for the school paths. Mr Reid and the secretary were' appointed to represent the School Committee at a meeting to be held to-night for the formation of a Swimming Club. It was agreed that in the event of a swimming club being formed the committee would be prepared to enter into an arrangement for the control of the bath for the season. Members were reminded of the euchre and dance social to be held in the School to-night in aid of the gramophone record fund. The question was raised as to whether a deputation should be sent to wait upon the Board of Education this month in regard to the building of a new school. After consideration it was deemed advisable to defer the visit until the Board's January meeting.
