GOOD SHOOTING IN SWEEPS,

Under almost perfect weather conditions the Ellesmere Gun Club opened its 1927 season on Saturday afternoon, on its ground at Lakeside. There was a fair attendance of members of the Club and several visitors came from Christchurch and Springston Clubs. An American style shoot, the first held by the Club, came next, and drew 10 shooters. Five men stand in a row, in line with the 16 yards mark, each separated by about a couple of yards, and each man fires in turn as his number is called, the shooting being got through very quickly. The competitors change positions after each round. E. Hammond broke his-10 clays and took first prize, 11. M. Wright, R. G. Power and L. C. Lemon, with 8 breaks each, dividing the rest of the money.

The final event was a 2/6 sweep of 6 birds, in which H. M. Wright, J. Winchester, E. G. Power, G. Nairn, W. R. Donald and E. A. Washbpurne scored possibles and divided.

E. Hammond was in fine form and

broke 42 out of a possible of 43 during the afternoon. He left before the final
