Kosewood is not the wood of aijy kind of rose tree. It is obtained chiefly from various Brazilian trees. The name is due to the faint smell of roses when the wood is freshly cut. A Detroit corporation has introduced the first American "bug car.* It is smaller than the' smallest English product yet seen in New Zealand, and the wheel base is only 73in as compared with 75in for the well-known British product with which it will compete: The four-cylinder engine has a bore of 2£in and it develops 20h.p. at 2500 revolutions. 'baby' cars are suited to the needs of the great majority and he will not. build them," said Mr P. W: Grandjean, secretary of the Ford Motor Company of Canada, who passed through Auckland recently. Mr Grandjean remarked that Mr Ford hag announced that he would build a six cylinder "car to fill the field not touched by the familiar Ford or high priced Lincoln. The Ford plants had been experimenting with six cylinder engines, said Mr, Grandjean. It was, however, very uncertain what class of car would be produced. Mr Ford's statemont might mean that he would introduce a car of low, or medium price. The Ford car cost less than 400 dollars and the Lincoln 4000 dol. or over. This left Mr Ford a very -wide discretion in the selection of a new, line. Referring to the financing of the Ford factory in Canada, Mr Grandjean said that when started in 1904 with a capital of £25, 000, Mr Ford's American corporation held 51 per cent, of the stock. Since then Mr Ford had disposed of some of his Canadian holdings, and he and Mr Edsel Ford now held jointly 28 per cent, of the stock in the Fprd Company of Canada.
