The annual camp of tho First New Zealand Mounted Rifles, held at the Addington Trotting Ground, was broken up on Wednesday. The second batch of members of the regiment from the I Leeston training centre, all of whom were mounted, returned to their homes that evening. The "camp was held simultaneously with the Military Pageant and Tattoo, in which a number of mounted men took part, while others assisted behind the scenes. On Monday, field practice was carried out at Cashmere, and on Tuesday the regimental sports were held at Hagley Park. A contest was organised for the Gallipoli Cup, and was won by the B squadron, which included the Leeston men. The activities of the camp and the pageant, and particularly the tending .of the horses, kept the campers employed over long hours, extending from 6 a.m. until nearly midnight. Though they had none too much time for rest after each day's exertion, the men found interest in their work and gained proof of the fact that camp life cements many friendships.
