CLOCKS WITH HISTORIES

After running without interruption for 400 years, the church clock at Easi| Hendred, a Berkshire village, has been stopped for repairs.. !# spite of this remarkable record, there are said to be several clocks in England which outdo the East Hendred one.

Windsor Castle has a clock still going which tradition asserts was given ,by Henry VIII. to Anne Boieyn on her wedding morning.

It is believed that the clock in Rye Parish Church, which has just been renovated, is the oldest public clock still in service with its original mechanism. It was built in 1515 at a total cost of £2 15s 4d. Cannon balls iare used for weights, and the quarter-hours are

sounded by two life-size figures.
