A '' catch " of a profitable nature was i made by aTe Kawa farmer ■ who brought to a member of the Waitomo Acclimatisation Society a sock contain- | ing 350 pairs of hawks' legs, the pros'duct of a few days' work' with strych•nine. He stated that he put a poisoned rabbit on the top of a wooden tripod which was attached to a fence to prevent the weight of the swooping hawks knockiug it over. He frequently came back, after the absence of ten minutes and found from ten to twelve hawks lying dead round his trap.
