The Rev Dr Holloway has generous^ given a complete set of John BuchanV History of the Great War to the Lees ton Public Library.
At Rongotea may be seen an example of the maternal instinct arising superior to racial differences and colour lines. ' A clucking hen has, taken charge of of a family of young kittens, which follow their foster i mother to the utter discomfiture of the cat, whose every eifort to win back her family has proved futile. The kittens are thriving too, despite-the fact that the hen's diligent search for worms remains unappreciated.
After the annual meeting of the Leeston Wesley Guild on Thursday night, a social evening was held in Wesley Hall to welcome the new minister of the Leeston Methodist Circuit, the Rev. A. -O. Harris and Mrs Harris. The function was of an informal nature ani .1 pleasant evening was spent, there being a representative attendant. Banjo solos were given by Mr Heyfler, Miss Mabel Eade contributed a song and Mr L. Eade recited. Words of -welcome were spoken by Mrs Harte aad Messrs L. W. Hewitt, J .Oliver, G. H. Jones and A. W. Green, who expressed the hope that Mr and Mrs Harris would spend a happy time in the Leeston district. Mr Harris, in acknowledging the welcome, said he looked forward to a period of useful service at Leeston and hoped to have the co-operation of the people in carrying but his wotlc . He had been much impressed by the cordial manner in which they had welcomed Mrs Harris and himself.
