Captain Girling has taken up his duties as officer in charge of the Leeston corps of the Salvation Army. His Ins: station was Queenstown.

Mr H. D. Mac Donald will hold his monthly produce sale at Leeston yanb next Friday. Present entries include an oil engine, about 400 skins and a large number of fowls.
The Key A. O. Harris, late of Timaru, began his ministry in the Lees ton Methodist circuit on Sunday. Tomorrow night Mr and Mrs Harris will be entertained at a welcome social in Wesley Hall, Leeston. The annual meeting of the Wesley Guild takes place the same evening at 7.30.
The marriage of Mr W. G. Chappell, son of Mr and Mrs H. S. Chappell, of Killinchy, to Miss McKenzie, daughter of Mrs McKenzie, of Dunsandel. tal^es place at Dunsandel this afternoon. The bride and bridegroom are both very popular in the district and their many friends wish them every happiness in their married life.
Particulars are given in this issue of a clearing sale to be held at Southbridge on Friday lrext, by the National Mortgage and Agency Co. and Messrs H. Matson and Co., in conjunction, on account of Mr W. C. McCausland, who has leased his farm. Special attention is called to the dairy cattle, which are a fine lot. There are some good horses, and the implements and sundries are in excellent condition. A five-seater Ford car is among the lots to be offered by auction.
On Friday night next the children 01 the Kllesmerc school will give a concert in the Brookside school in aid of the fund for installing electric light in the schoolroom at Brookside, which is'largely ujßed for social purposes. It will be a great boon1 to have the building \i up by electricity ~T All who know how very thorough Mr Dotiblcday is in the training of the children will look forward with great pleasure to Friday's concert. There should be a full house. Supper will be provided and there will be a dance afterwards.
An important meeting of the Ellesmere Eugby Sub-union is called for tomorrow night. The main business is the question of inaugurating a primary schools competition with, a view to encouraging schoolboys, who are to become the future senior players. The headmasters of the various schools have been asked to confer with the union. On the same evening a meeting of referees will be held. All who have been assisting in the past with refereeing, as well as any other gentlemen who may be willing to take up the work, are asked to atteitf1 the meeting. Referees for the firs, round of the competitions will be appointed. The competition starts on April 29.
On Good Friday special services were conducted in the Leeston parochial district by the Dean of Christehurch, there being a good congregation in each placei The Easter services were continued on Sunday, when the . Rev Dr Hollo-way, vicar of the parish,-was the preacher. Special services were also held in the Ellesmere parochial district by- the Rev H. G. Hawkins and the usual Good Friday and Easter services were conducted in tho Catholic churches at Leeston and Southbridge by the Rev Father Finnerty.
