COMMITTEE MEETING

The committee working in the interests of the Leeston queen met in the Parish Hall on Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance of both ladies and gentlemen, and Rev "Father Finnerty presided. . Some discussion took place on the advisability of taking side shows to Tteu'mutu on Easter Monday. It was eventually decided to abandon the project, . . The ladies in charge of the sweets stall reported that all arrangements were complete for running the stall at the regatta. , Mr- McCartin reported that altogether there, were five sheep promised on bohalf of Leeston queen. Three of these Were left entirely to the committee to utilise in whatever way suited best, but there were conditions attaching to the big sheep and the queen's lamb. It was 'decided to give a prize of 20s for best guess on the big sheep and a 15s prize for best guess on the queen's lamb. It was agreed to also have a name guessing competition in connexion with the queen's lamb, for which a prize of los was voted. The big sheep and queen's lamb will run right through the bazaar, and the other three will be disposed of one each evening. . Mr MeCartin was selected to "be in sole charge of the sheep guessing competitions, and to appoint his own assist: ants. The secretary, Mr "V. A. Bendall. pointed out that it would be advisable

for the Leeston committee to get off as many drawings as possible each night. There were still over twenty competitions to be decided, and it would not be advisable to leave too many undrawn for the final night. He moved that Leeston committee arrange for at least six drawings each evening. This was seconded by Mr Eecleton and carried. • ' The executive secretary, Mr P. J. Eecleton explained <that the positions of the queens would be signalled by flags. The amounts paid in on behalf of the different queens must be net, each section paying their own expenses. No debts on any particular queen would be paid by the executive.
