"Flying Ike Gem over the Mud."
Dr. Alice Hutchison, who, with) a number of Scottish nurses, hag! just reached England, after being interned as prisoners in Hungary for over two months, has some interesting stories to tell. •' Our walking* capacity," says Dr. Hutchison, ''was a terrible difficulty to the guards. They were not accustomed to walk so far or so quickly as we did, and they were furiously angry. We only walked five or six miles ; but one of the guards told the captain he would not go again with us. 4 If,' he said, 'they would only walk ; but they fly like geese over the mud.' I was called up to the office, and was told this could not go on, but I replied that British women were used to sport and exer: cisc, and that I was surprised to find that Austrian soldiers could-aot keep up with British women.- -Tbsn the guard was changed, and two strong, stalwart-looking men.came on the scene. The.less stalwart was chosen for the morning shopping, and the second sent to rest in pre^ paration for the afternoon walk* The officer said it was no laughing matter, as the men were not accustomed to go on expeditions like these. When I asked the big, strong men if they were not tired, they saw the joke and became quite friendly."
