. Attention is directed to Mr V. A. Bendall's new ad. The Southbridge Town Board meets to morrow evening. Mr T B Howson, of Sedgemere, is spending.a holiday at Hanmer. Mr W. Walker, of Dunsandel, has purchased from Mr John Deans, 470 acres of the Homebush estate. The old pupils of the Southbridge ; District High School are holding 1 a card party and dance on Friday I evening in the Town Hall. Southbridge people must not overlook the sale of work to be held in St. John's Hall this afternoon by the Busy Bees.

Full particulars concerning the clearing sale to be held by the Farmers' Co-operative Association on account of Mr T, W. The man had his leg broken and was taken into Christchurch by motor car. James Iyayton Kennybrook, better known as "Crowing Jimmy,' was arraigned before Dr Withers, J.P., at the Southbridge Court on Saturday morning on a charge of vagrancy. He was rsmanded for a week in order that inquiries might be made as to whether accommodation could be found for him in the Old Men's Home or some such institution. The Leeston Volunteer Fire Brigade is holding a fortnightly euchre party and dance in the Town Hall to-night. All residents of the district are invited to attend. There is quite a boom in the building trade at Southbridge just now. An up-to-date house has just been finished on the property of Mr W. H. Eddy, who has been a resident of Irwell for a number of years, but intends to settle in Southbridge againv Mr W. Lochhead Is having a six roomed house built in a section adjoining Messrs Scott and Go's premises, and a bungalow is being erected for Mr A. Appleton in Broad Street.

A rumour has been circulated in Southbridge to the effect that Private George Home, who enlisted with the Tenth Reinforcements, had deserted. How or where this dastardly report originated it is hard to conjecture. In connexion with this matter, Mr E. Ruddock, jun., wrote to the military headquarters at Wellington, and has received the following reply :—" Re 6/4062, Private George Home.—l am directed to inform you that the above soldier's name appears on the Embarkation Roll as having enlisted with'C Company, Tenth Reinforcements. His name also appears on the Ship's Roll received at this office from Albany. From this you will see there appears to be no truth in the statement that Private Home, kis deserted from the New Zealand Forces/
