NINTH HEIKPORCEMENTS AND PJFLE BATTALION.
Private David Eddy, do Irwell boy, who left New Zealand with the Ninth Reinforcements, writes to a friend/under date January 25th, om which dafee the troopship, was 1 crossing the Indian Ocean. In ths I -course of life letter he says : •" I must say we have had a very pleasant voyage indeed;'£o far. We have bad only one rouglr day since we left Wellington oh the 12th. It was rather amasing to see the boys trying to dodg;e the water which came' over the sblpand running straight into it. We are now in almost the hottest part of the tropics. TOf-morrow or the next' day we shall be crossing the line they say. The climate is not as hot as one might have expected, for there has been a gentle breeze blowing which tempers the heat of the sun. We have thrown scores of bottles overboard with messages in them and we have :-seen several flying fish which, of course, interested us very much. "The food is very good and there is plenty of it; in fact, I think it is better tbar? when we were in camp. The Southbridge boys are: sleeping in the same hold as myself and we are all sticking togethe c well. Most of the boys have h ad their turn of sea sickness, not fo- /getting myself. We get rifle and -ither exercises on board, but there, is not rauch room. Still we always make the best of things. Gojds can be purchased from the cai Ateen at a very reasonable price.
