Irwell.
-0 (From our Corrsspondsnt) I SPRINGSTON V IRWELL. These Clubs met for the first time this ■ season on the ground ef the former. The , home tram mustered strongly, and should • have scored a victory. The stubborn re- ; sistance of J. Heslop saved his side. He , played right through the innings for 26 not out. The bowl- . ing was good, and he played it with great patience, never giving a semblance of a chance. E. Keast and MoMeekan, with 14 each, batted best for the home team. For the second time this season the Irwell Club found its representatives wanting m honour and sportsman like spirit. Four of the eleven who had promised to come were the only ones to put m an appearance. Three other members of the club were there as spectators, but had to share the fighting, and four gentlemen on the ground volunteered to play. Irwell won on the first innings by 28 runs. But such a win puts no heart into the team, and those who, whether purposely or not, are injuring the Club will find themselves left out m the cold by the Selection Committee. Bramley and E. Keast bowled well for Springston, and Rome and R. Cos for the winners. The scores were as follow : — SPRINGSTON. A. Kimber, b Smith 0 C. Hubbard, b Cbe ... ... 2 E.
