The report of the Labour Bureau for the year states that the depression haa been severely felr, bat there wai a good demand for farm labour. In the building trad* it says there wai acate depression. The nnmber of unemployed registered was 13,600, an increase of 1400 on the preoading twelve months. The bulk of these were sent fossicking for. gold, and the increase m the yield of gold was largely attributed to this means. Although £6000 lias been reoeived as a ref and on fares, there wasatill £12,000 owing.
