CORN EXCHANGE REPORT.
The following is tlio Corn Exchange repott ,(per I*l. I*. iUkyeus, Secretary) for the', week en-Oin^ Friday, March 18th, 1891 :— T l.ie._.WciUhei' has bepn .cxceeJiagly. favourable for the ingathering of the balance of the grain crups which may now be ronsidi-n-d secured, although m gome instances not without damage. A aouch firmer tone m wheat, owing to the Steady advance m the European markets, and shortage m New South Wales is noticeable, and lucal millers are anxious to-purchase at an in -Tease ot our last quotations. . Sydney advices indioate that New South Wales will require heavy suppjies from outsides sources and this together with the hardening tendency m. the Home markets, must be encouraging to growers who have not sold. Operations during the week have been chiefly confined to millers, especially m the Hangoria market were keen competition, was exhibited. There is •mple tonnage for growers who wiali te •hip, but feeling is generally to Fiold for « month or two. The oat crop is both poor m quality and yield. Heavy milling is wanted but prices preclude manufacturers of oatmeal competing with our Southern friends. Barley, if prime malting meets with a fair enquiry, but second quality and off samples are quite neglected. Grass seed is offering freely and prices are weaker. The potato crop is one of the largest ever known as regards acreage, and the yield 'of kidnejs above anticipations, Several parcels have been placed for shipment a fortnight hence at 27s 6d to 28s 6d per ton at country stations. In Derwents forward sales have been made for delivery off the forks ab 25s to 27s 6d. Quotations as follows. Wheat—Tuscan, 3s 8d ; Pearl, 3s 6d ; Hunter's, Ss 5d ; whole chick, 3s. Oats—Milling, Is 8d ; short feed, li 6d to Is 7d ; inferior, Is 4d to Is sd. Barley —Prime maltinsr up to 3s 3d ; secpnd quality, 2s G 1 to 2s lOJ ; feed, ls;8d to is 10tl. Peas, 2s (id to 3s. Uye Grass —ss to 03 61 ; farmers lines, 3s (j 1 to -is (M.
