HOSPITAL BOARD

The. monthly meeting of the Board was held in the County Chambers, Clyde, on 20th February and was attended by Messrs S- A. Stevens (Chair), W. Bringans, J. Swann, G. Wishart and E. Naylor. Leave of absence was granted Messrs C- J. Spain, R. E. Butcher and W. D. Naylor. Before commencing the business the Chairman made reference to the death of Mr David Stuart Middleton who had been a valued member of the Board for many years. The late Mr Middleton’s connection with Hospital affairs in the District commenced in 1915 as a member of the Cromwell Hospital Committee of Management and be joined the Hospital Board in 1923 as one of the Vincent County representatives, continuing with unbroken service for 22 years up to date of his death. Throughout # this long period Mr Middleton gave his services wholeheartedly to the work of the Board and he would be remembered par-' ticularly for his enthusiastic and practical interest in the administration of Cromwell Hospital. The Board passed a resolution recording Mr Middleton’s long and faithful service, and expressing deep sympathy with Mrs Middleton and members of the family. The Director-General of Health (Dr Watt) and the Hon. Mr Nordmeyer (Minister of Health) wrote advising that they hoped to visit the Board’s District at an early date. The Board decided to call special meetings to meet Dr Watt and the Minister to discuss the question of the Board’s future building policy for the southern portion of the district. Consideration of the Board’s proposals in regard to capital expenditure for the next financial year was held over pending the discussions with Dr Watt and the Minister.

The Otago Hospital Board forwarded notifications of 5 Vincent patients admitted to Dunedin Hospital during the past month and of 1 patient discharged during the month. Southland and South Otago Hospital Boards also notified the admission of a Vincent patient to Lake County and Owaka Hospitals respectively. One Vincent patient was discharged from Waipiata Sanatorium during the past month. Vincent Hospitals' statistics for month of January: Dunstan Hospital— 31 admitted; 24 discharged; 2 deaths; 17 remaining at end of mouth. 24 Out-patient attendances’, 14 Out-patient X-ray examinations. Cromwell Hospital:—4s admitted; 46 Discharged; 21 remaining at end pf month. 19 Out-patient attendances; 18 Out-patient X-ray examinations. During month of January 8 babies born in Cromwell Maternity Annexe and 5 in the Dunstan Annexe

Matron McLees, Dunstan Hospital, thanks the following residents for Jifts received at the Hospital during anuary:— Mrs A. Wilson, Clyde; Mrs McArthur, Conroys; Mrs L. Fountain, Clyde; Mrs T. Tt.
