His many friends will be glad to learn that Mr L. IT. Denniston of Earnscleugh, who is an inmate of the Dunstan Hospital as the result of injuries received from a fall from a horse, is now making a good recovery. Mrs S. Battersby (Dunedin) is spending a holiday at Kyeburn Station. Miss Noel O Kane returned to Alexandra on Saturday after participating with success in the golf tournament at. DunedinMrs F. Shrimpton (Dunedin) is the guest of her Mrs F. W. Duncan, Aiexandra. Mr & Mrs A, H. Thomsen and family, Miss Evelyn Thomson and Miss M Bail were guests of Mrs M. Thomson (Clyde) over the week-end. Mr Fraser, manager of Fraser & Co., the well-known fruit and produce auctioneers, of Oamaru, is visiting Central Otago. Mr D. Sinclair, Clyde, went to Dunedin to-day and will be absent for three weeks. Mr & Mrs H. W. Horne and daughter, who spent a holiday at Clyde, [and were camped at the Fraser Reserve, are now at Wedderburn, where they are visiting friends, prior to returning to Dunedin.
Messrs E. J Howard and i>. W. Schramm were elected by the Labour Parliamentary Party last week to represent the party at the Coronation celebiations. Mr Howard is Chairman of Committees and Deputy Speaker. He was for 16 years a Whip of the party, and he entered the House in 1919. representing Christchurch Sth. Mr Schramm represented Auckland East since 1931,
The death occurred at Clyde on Thursday afternoon of Miss Madge Kaiie Victoria Clark, who nad been a resident here for some few months. The late Miss Clark was born in Tasmania and came at an early age with her parents to New Zealand to live at Otautau and later Kaitangata. She commenced her nursing career in Dunedin hospital and on completing her training received an appointment as Sister to the Southland Hospital. In 1929 she was appointed to the Horne Infirmary as Matron where she was dearly loved by the staff and patients, particularly the aged, for whom she showed great kindliness and understanding. In 1931 she suffered a serious breakdown in health from which she did not _ fully recover and which necessitated her resignation from the nursing profession. She bore years of ill-health with unfailing courage and cheerfulness and was one to . whom the needs of others were the first consideration. She was loved by a wide circle of friends who are left to mourn her loss The funeral took place at Clyde on Saturday when the Rev. Mr Bevis officiated.
