The monthly meeting of above was held last Monday, Gr S- A. Stevens presiding. Present: Messrs F, R. Boiud, VV. M. Lopdcll, C. J. Hanning, T. Aitken and Rev A. 13. Pywell. Apology for absence was received from Mr W. A, Harlow.

The chairman stated the authority for expenditure of grant lor Lraser River improvements had yet to come from the Treasury.

The Deputy Chairman explained the unfortunate situation that had arisen about the Easter Monday concert. Had members only known sooner a first-class orchestra could have been engaged for the occasion. The two approached had prior engagements. They were further hampered by being unable to get items from visitors as was anticipated. Correspondence was received from the Otago Central Electric Power Board intimating the cost of wiring the hall for ‘‘talkies” would be £4 17 G. The Secretary’s action in ordering the work to tie done was endorsed.

From the Caretaker withdrawing report before the Trust at last meeting. Received.

The Secretary stated he had attended to the correspondence re prospective hall bookings. The financial statement showed revenue for the month amounted to £8 18 0 expenditure £7 7 G, accounts amounting to £IG !) 4 were passed for payment. Of these £6 10 3, represented a rate demand by the Vincent County Council which members considered was an unnecessary extra burden having regard to the nature anti extent ol the Trusts operations. The Treasurer stated something like £iG was overdue for rents and subs to the library and expressed the hope that these amounts would have the early attention of those concerned. The Dr Balance stood at £OB 13 11. A discussion followed on the suggestion that some effort should _be made to test the local coal deposits. The chairman stated that had been done years ago and owing to the poor quality of the coal obtainable it could not be a very valuable asset. A notice of motion was tabled by Mr T. Aitken that the recommendation of the annual meeting bo considered at the next meeting,.viz., that steps be taken to widen the franchise for the election of the Clyde Town Trust.

The baths question came up for consideration. Mr Boufd stated that the Easter Sports Committee offered £lO towards the proposal. Very careful consideration was given and members were all of. one mind that the townspeople generally had exhibited opposition to a scheme which, if now lost, will never again be introduced. The opportunity under the Unemployment Board’s activities could not be more favourable. However, the Trust could not shoulder the extra burden envolved and regretfully threw out the proposal. Those who had already subscribed would receive back their contributions.

The secretary was instructed to write the County Engineer commending the work done with the new lluming between the dam and the settling tank. The Chairman and Secretary were asked to the engineer suggesting the drainage and cleaning out of the clam, in order to improve the water supply. This would have the additional advantage of providing greater storage.
