The Dunstan Times 'Eiat justitia ruat colcum.' Monday, December 15th, 1930. EARLY DAYS IN CENTRAL OTAGO.

A Splendid Work by By Mr Robert Gilkison. We have to thank the author for a copy of his most interesting book “Early Days in Central Otago”, being tales of days gone by. The work is dedicated to the Memory of the Early Pioneers, and as such is a graceful tribute to that gallant body of brave men and women who endured so much in those early days to open up and develop this wonderful country. True to his enviable reputation for thoroughness, Mr Gilkison has made a really remarkably fine collection of reliable tales of the doings and vicissitudes of the pioneers, and he must have done a tremendous amount of research work to produce it. It is a well written record of many interesting events, _of storms and floods, coaching days, gold robberies, etc., with personal details that make those stirring bygone days live again.. The book, which as a work of art is a credit to the publishers (the 0 D. Times & Witness Co.) is beautifully and profusely illustrated—two particularly interesting pictures being the main street in Clyde over sixty years ago, and the Old Man Rock. Mr Gilkison is to be thanked for his success ful effort to put on record a work that will preclude the memories of the early days ever being forgotten. We have

pleasure in recommending “Early Days in Central Otago” to our readers.
