MANIOTOTO NOTES

NASEBY NOTES

A most successful and enjoyable smoke concert was held by the members of the Naseby band in the Oddfellows Hall on Saturday Bth. inst for the purpose of celebrating the bands success at the recent contests. The President, Mr J Keogh, occupied the chair and welcomed bandsmen. He congratulated the band upon its meritorious performance. During the evening the following Toasts were proposed and duly honoured. The success of the Naseby Band in securing 3rd, place in the Quickstep and 2nd. in the selection: thus netting £25 in prize money is a performance of which the band might well feel proud In the Quickstep, owing to the volume of applause from spectators, the front rank failed to hear the whistle and this lost many points for the band In the “Own Selection" the band secured 2nd place and £2O in prize money after a most searching enquiry had been held-by the Bands Association into the number of professional players each band had played. In the aggregate points secured for Quickstep and selection the band secured 2nd place; Green Island being first. It is pleasant to bandsmen to know that their honours were secured on sheer merit and with the smallest (18 in number) band taking part in theß. B Contest, all other bands having 6 or 8 more players. Great credit is reflected upon Mr. T Moore as conductor and the band as a whole A public meeting; convened by Mr. T. Hore, Deputy Mayor, to make arrangements to give bandsmen a dinner at early date was largely attended and arrange ments are proceeding apace to noid this in the Oddfellows Hall on Tuesday 25th. next at 0. p.m: Some months ago the Roxb urgh Band rook up the matter of forming an Otago Central Bands Association with the ob ject of having a O Grade con test held in Otago Central All bands in Central Ot go were circularised by the Roxburgh band and credit is due to this band if this project can be brought to a successful issue. —Toast List - c The King” South Island Bands Assn.
