Some Oxford undergraduates have set out in quest of information that will disclose the origin of the Chinese belief in ghosts. The Chinese are taught, from the cradle upwards, to regard themselves as environed bv these “Guests from Ghostland”. Besides the “Homeless Ghosts”, and “Hungary Ghosts”, v it is believed that every town is presided over by an “Aristocratic Ghost”, and a “Benevolent Ghost”, who, in some mysterious way, preserves the city from calamity and disease.
