Mr and Mrs H. J. Partridge, of Clyde, who leave to-morrow to take up their residence at Dunedin, are to be given a farewell to-night. During his long connection with the district Mr Partridge has taken a keen interest in local matters. As an ath letehe excelled in several branches, having represented his county with distinction in both football and cricket. He is, however, making a good recoveryThe Invercargill police have been advised that William lan Kane, aged twenty-three, was accidentally drowned while working at the Kawarau dam at Queenstown last week. It appears that Kane and a" companion were sky-larking on a platform, from which the former fell into the river and was carried away by the current. The body was recovered half an hour later, but all efforts at resuscitation failedMr Robt.
