Controversy is already ragmg, .says the London Daily Mail, a.s to whether Mrs Hilton Philipson. the member of Parliament, formerly well-known as an actress, should concentrate on her work in Parliament, or on her work in the ; misery. M iss Sybil Thorndike, the actress, who is iiie mother of four children, says that she heartily sympathises with Mrs Philipson if she. finds that Pai iiament prevents her from seeing enough of her children. Lady Honham-Ca rter. who is a daughter of Air Asquith, and who has refused a dozen invitations to he a Parliamentary candidate, says that she believes in the divine right of children. ■•I am devoted to my daughters,” ‘-he says. ‘‘aVcl I would never have time I r Parliament. Women with young children should not enter public life.” Dr Marie Stupes thinks that Airs Philipson will be acting unfairly to her eon- ti tnents if she resigns on t lie ground that her nursery has the gi eater claim upon her. Before entering Parliament she should .have considered 1 the matter, as she knew what both claims meant.
