A SIBERIAN GIANT.

Kazanloff, a man recently exhibited. in Hungary, is said to he one of the largest men alive, and is probably one of tbe tallest mi'ii of whom authentic record exists, according to a. Siberian journal. As might he expected, the food capacity of the tallest man in the world is in proportion to his great body, hut whether' he enjoys what heeats and drinks more than the average man is to he questioned. He also needs much more sleep than most of us could beatbily indulge in. He is 34 years of age, his height is 9ft 3in, and he is built in proportion to his height. Thus, his hand is lit lin from linger tip to wrist; hit, foot is Ift Din long; his chest measurement is sGin; the circumference of his head' is 25in and his weight is 4581b. To support this huge frame he eats an amount that! would satisfy four others of good appetite. In four meals in the course of the day ho consumes four or five pints of milk, 15 to 20 eggs, 31b or 41b of meat, live or six loaves of bread, large quantities of potatoes; beans and other vegetables, 4 to G pints of wine, and sor 6 quarts of beer. These quantities appear to be well attested, as do the measurements of his proportions; hut the fact that arrests attention particularly in the accounts of the giant's habits is the enormous amount of sleep that he needs. Normally he passes a largo portion of the day in slumber, and he has been known to sleep for 21 hours on end. Even when awake his movements are slow and deliberate, and he is inclined to doze off when left alone, the only stimulus to exertion being the cravings of hunger, which aroi said to be acute. It is impossible in. the light of recent researches on giantism to regard this prodigious specimen of humanity as a mere "freak." He must lie the subject of pathologic change, probably in the pituitary body. The condition' of general symerical giantism gradually developing is not in all points like true acromegaly, hut is closely allied 1o it. The progosis with regard to longevity can not he said to lie bright. Kazanloff has now left for his fatherland. Siberia, where he intends to help his parents in farm work.
