FOOTBALL.

The match Maniototo v Waihemo played at Ranfurly on Saturday was marred by heavy rain, good back play being impossible. The Maniototo forwards, however, gave a good showing, being superior to their opponents all round. The first spell ended Maniototo 3 brilliant try by Eric Naylor) to nil. immediately after'starting the second spell Maniototo got another try which was converted. There was no further I score,. Maniototo winning bv 8 points to nil. The Millers Flat tournament on Saturday resulted—The Seniors was won by Roxburgh East, the Juniors by Tapanui and the Schools by Heriot. A very interesting game of football was played at Lauder between Ophir and Lauder schools, the Ophir boys being the victors by 9 points to nil. The teams were—Ophir : Fullback, F Gallagher; three-quarter J. Gallagher; Dick White, W. White. 11. Gallagher, Jack Woblenski Ted Pilches. Lauder, Jim O'Neil, Ted Gossling, Stan Leask, Earnie Whyte, Dave Leath, Tom Leath and Frank Thurlow. The lads all played well, some showing great promise tor the future senior teams. The most sensational happening on the ground was when the referee, Jim McLedowney. was hit by the ball on the place where they don't play billiards, and the spectators wondered whether he would go right out, but he recovered. The boys were treated to lunch by Mr McLedowney and to refreshments on the ground by the residents.—Own correspondent.
