BIRTHDAY BALL.
■ # To celebrate the coming of age of her son Hector, Mrs Poole, of Kaianga, gave a ball in the Town Hall, Clyde, on Friday evening last, and a delightful function it proved to be. The Hall was most beautifully decorated, being trans formed into a veritable thing of beauty, and with the many pretty frocks of the ladies, the scene presented was a brilliant one. Guests were present from all parts of Central Otago, and from as far away as Dunedin, and it is quite sale to say that they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The music for the dancing was supplied by the Gordon-Flint Jazz Orchestra, of Dunedin, which statement is a sufficient guarantee that it was first-class. The supper room also most tastefully decorated, was the scene of a very pleasant gathering. After the many good things provided had been done ample justice to, a short toast list was gone through. Mr R. M. Ray, who act.ed as Chairman, proposed the King; Mr John Smart, Mr Hector Poole; the latter replying neatly and in happy vein; Mr H. E. Stevens proposed the Hostess, Mr Geo. McDonald responding on behalf of his sister; Mr A Davidson proposed “the rest of the Poole Family,” Master Dudley making a neat response. All the toasts were received with musical honoifrs. Altogether the evening was a most enjoyable one, and Mrs Poole has the satisfaction of knowing that her guests were very grateful to her for providing such a splendid evening. On the following night, Mrs Poole very generously gave an evening as a Benefit for the Hospital, when another enjoyable dance was held, patrons being treated to an excellent supperDuring the evening Mr S, TSpain, on behalf of the Hospital Committee, thanked Mrs Poole for her generosity, which means that the hospital funds will be augmented by about £2O. Car sales brisk— Importers all find business very good. Todd Bros Ltd. report that their car sales of Fords and Wolseleys clearly indicate that better times have come. These two popular makes of cars fill two distinct needs, the Ford for general utility purposes, and the wolseley as England s finest car. Todd Bros will gladly sepd literature Jrc t.
