Lucerne—The wonderful value of lucerne is daily becoming more widely recognised and It is pleasing to see that the area planted in Central Otago is being yfearly increased. On page 7 of this issue we publish a special article on the cultivation of the great fodder plant. Hull’s Pictures at Clyde on Thursday night will screen a particularly interesting programme, including Pathe Gazette Kinogram No 8 and the Star Picture, Dinty, in which Wesly Barry the freckle-faced boy actor is seen in the first starring vehicle of his youthful Career. It is the tale of a fighting newsboy who has an old Irish mother to support. San Francisco's Chinatown is the locale for some of the scenes and it is replete with dramatic as well as amusing incidents. A meeting of the Hospital Board takes place at Clyde on Wednesday. Order paper is to receive the Balance Sheet of The Board’s Account for the year ending on the 31st March 1922. Finance and General; to consider Notice of Motion by Mr J. Ritchie ‘That the present system of hospital management by Committee be discontinued and that in future the Board will manage both Hospitals itself. A Final Reminder.—The annua! meeting of the Central Otago Trotting Club takes place at Alexandra tonight. A cable from the High Commissioner regarding the cargo of apples by s.s. A dance in aid of the Clyde, Bowling and Tennis Club is to be held in the Town Hall on August nth. • # • * ♦ The concert being arranged under the auspices 'of the Vincent Sports Club for the nth. August, at Omakau is well under way and a treat is in store for the residents of the district. Tie programme from start to finish will be bright and pleasing each soloist being supported by a rollicking chorus or dance. The comic element is not being overlooked and musical mono-* logues are also included- First class music is being supplied and the management anticipate that Mr Cottier, late leader of original N. Z- Diggers orchestra, will be available to assist in this direction. The fancy dresses and costumes will be a feature, and electric lighting effects are being provided for the stage- This will give a finishing touch to the elaborate arrangements already made. All are advised to make a point of seing the entertainment. The public are invited to purchase their tickets now and thus save confusion and delay at the door. • * , •. Johnston, a few years ago a member of the staff of the Clyde Railway Station. The deceased, who was a great favorite on all sides, leaves a wife and several children to mourn their great loss. The deceased gentleman lived in Dunedin, and was a guard on the Railway. # * « Mr Geo. Piper, of the P. W. D. Invercargill, and formerly of Clyde, has been transferred toAuckland as Senior Storekeeper. « « « f A little girl named Larsen, 7 yfars of age, died in the Dunstan Hospital on Saturday.
