FOOTBALL.

(By “Dkop-kick.) The football match between teams chosen from the Clyde, Earnscleugh and Alexandra schools, and the Cromwell, Bannockburn and Lowburn schools, played at Cromwell on Saturday, resulted in a win for the southern reps, by I4pts to nil. The winners were heavier than their opponents, and they were the better team. Hepburn potted two pretty goals, and L. Pearson and J. Steele each scored a try. Two appreciations from Southern papers of Geoff Stevens, an old Clyde boy now stationed at Otautau “G. Stevens as half was a shining light in that 'department. He plays with his head as well as with his feet. Nuggety in stature, he is an apt wriggler, and hard to hold.” “G. Stevens did a lot of work and did it well. Writer considers Stevens and McGahe are easily best halves in Western district. It is good to hear Stevens say “ Mark.” With the exception of the combined schools match at Cromwell on Saturday there was no local football last week. Next Saturday Clyde and Lowbuni play their return match on the former’s ground and Alexandra and Cromwell will battle out their dispute on the Cromwell ground. The latter match is expected to provide a lively and interesting go, the general opinion being that the Blues will win. VINCENT SUB-UNION. The meeting of the above held at Cromwell on Saturday was attended by Messrs W. Jelley, (chair) W. F. Abel, H. Stevens, J. Swann, A. Robertson, and S. Stevens. Correspondence was read from the Clyde Club applying for a transfer for T. Gilmour from the Lowburn Club. Granted. Also from the Alexandra Club for a transfer from the Southern for R. Bruce, The Alexandra Club to be informed that unless Bruce’s clearance is forthcoming the conditional transfer granted will be withdrawn. The Secretary of the 0. R. F. U. intimated that the matter of an extra match at Cromwell had been referred to the sub-committee. It was resolved that the Sub-Union offer to provide conveyances to take the Dunedin team to and from Cromwell. Mr Abel reported having ordered Gye off the ground in the Cromwell v Clyde match the previous Saturday. He considered that Gye had received sufficient punishment for the offence and that a caution would meet the case. Resolved that Gye be placed on the cautioned list. Two notices of motion were received for next meeting, one by Mr S. Stevens that a sole selector be appointed to pick the representative teams, and the other by Mr Abel that a sub-committee be appointed to revise the rules.
