SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.
CLYDE SCHOOL.
The annual meeting of householders, held on Monday evening last was attended by a dozen gentlemen. Mr If. E. Stevens presided. The annual balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of £9-10s, was read and adopted, several speakers referring to the satisfactory state of the committees finances.
The report of the committee, which was read and received also disclosed a gratifying improvement in the allairs of the school. The number of children on the roll on the committee taking office was 107, with an average attendance of 88, during the year the numbers have increased respectively to 118 and IUS. The result of theincrease has boon the appointment of Miss Hotting, as pupil teacher. The report also referred to the necessity for the erection of a class room, pointing out the steps taken by the Committee to have one erected.
Mr A. McSwan proposed a hearty vole of thanks to the retiring committee for their efforts during tlie past year, and also to the teaching staff. - Carried.
The chairman then called for nominations for a committee of seven, the result being that the following gentlemen were nominated Messrs W, Holloway, J. Vcrcoc, 11. Bnrmcistcr, J. A. Holt, Jas. Holt, 11. E. .Stevens, G. Faeho, A. McSwan, Jas. Wilson, J, Wright, W. Brookes and J. Davis. On a ballot being taken the following were declared elected Messrs H. E. Stevens, J. Vcrcoc, A. McSwan, G. Fachc, H. Burmoister, W. Holloway, and Jas. Wilson.
The chairman explained that the question ot the establishment of a library in connection with the school had been discussed by the committee, and it had been decided to leave the matter in abeyance til! the annual meeting, so that householders could have an opportunity of expressing their views on the question. The Education Board made a generous oiler. They provided book cases free, and contributed a subsidy of ids for every pound raised for the purpose of providing literature. 'Hie Board also supplied a good class of suitable books at remarkably cheap rates, ami ho (the chairman) thought that there should be little difficulty in raising £s—an amount (hat would enable them to commence, with a fair stock of books. There was no doubt that such an institution would bo of great benefit. Several other gentlemen having spoken agreeing with the proposal, Mr Burmeister moved—That the committee he empowered to take up the matter of establishing a school library. —Seconded by Mr Robertson and carried. A meeting of the newly-elected commit lee takes place Ibis evening. A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
