Ida Valley Presbyterian Church.

The Ida Valley Presbyterian Church, negotiations for which have been under way since April, 1505, was completed some little time ago, and marked a time that had been looked forward to with considerable interest by Presbyterians in Ida Valley. Though mudh required, the building of this Church was regarded for years as.almost an im-, possibility. A little over a year ago a committee was appointed to inaugurate a scheme to carry out the work, and it is pleasing to know that their efiorts met at all times with a vigorous and hearty response from all sections of the sommuuity, with the result that the Church is now an accomplished fact, and it opens almost free of debt. The primary object of the Church is to unite the congregations of Moa Creek and Poolbum districts, enabling them to have a service every Sabbath. By widening the interests of each this Junction will go far towards raising new interest in Church matters hero. The Rev, Mr Borne, of Dunedin, conducted the opening service on Sunday, 27th May, taking his text from Rev. 3, 20, “ Behold, I stand at the Door and Knock.” Notwithstanding the fact that a heavy gale was blowing the congregation numbered over 100— visitors coming from all parts of tha district. The Social in connection with tha opening of the Ohurtsh took place on the Tuesday following, and proved an immense success. The weather was splendid—-the result being that the ac* commodation of the Church was taxed to its limit. A splendid programme was presented, and the audience signi*? lied their pleasure and appreciation thereat —the general opinion being that it was one ot the most enjoyable eu* tertainments ever given in the Valley. Addresses were given by the Rev. Mr Borrie, and Messrs Blundell and Hark ness, while songs were contributed by Mis? Black (‘Gates of the West ’ and * Speaking through the Telephone ’) Mr Ball (‘ Ora Pro Nobis’ and ' Good Company Mr G. Robertson (‘ Nazareth ’), Mrs Harkness {‘O’ a’ the Airts’ and ‘ Laud o’ the Leal ’), Mrs Blundell (• Palace o’ the King ’ and 4 The Garden ol Children ’i, Mias Anderson (‘ I'ho Holy City '), Mr Black (‘ Queen of the Earth ’ and ‘ Better Land ’), Mr Webster (‘ Kentucky ’), while a recitation • The Wharf Rat ’ by Mr Blundell was much appreciated. A quartette ‘ All Tears Away ’) by Messrs Kent, Robertson (2), and Black, and a duet by Messrs Rodgers and Webster (‘ He Wipes a Tear ’) were well received. The accompaniments were played by Miss Black. The choir, under Mr Robertson, gave a number of selected items which met with hearty approval. Refreshments were liberally provided by the ladies. The customary votes of thanks having been enthusiastically accorded, the meeting broke up towards midnight, all feeling that evenings so enjoyable come only too seldom.
