The bachelors of Alexandra are to be congratulated on the success of their efforts in iegard to their ball, which was held last Thursday evening. The committee, in issuing invitations- used great disci etion, ard the result was very gratifying, both to them, as well as to those who attended. Forty couples took part in the Grand March, and the number was augmented considerably as the evening advanced. The music, ' a bit of the best' was supplied by Miss Keany (piano), Messrs Briasco (violin), Bringans (cornet), aiid Cairns (piccolo), while Mr Wit'ich had Uie supplying of refresh merits, which, needless to say, left nothing to be desired. Mr Edgecombe must receive a word of praise, as he was indefatigable ia his work as secretary and M.U. I>ancing #as kept up till half-past three.

It may not begeneially known that a medical doctor attached to a volunteer corp has to earn his capitation. Such is the c«se, however, and his work in that direction is to hold ambulence el«sm for volunteers, and further,

Writing of volunteers reminds me that b-ziac in aid of funds for & dtil 1 shed is to be held nest Friday and Saturday. There will be a parade on F id ay night? when the local band with ""-heir new instruments, will assist the Company.
