Alexandra.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT)
There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of members of the Alexandra Jockey Club last week. Mr J D Buchanan presiding. The balance sheet showed a credit ot over .£7O, The lollowa iug office-bearers were elected: — President Mr J D Buchanan ; vicepresident, Mr G Simpson : jndge, Mr J Butler; starter, Mr J Hartley ; handicappers, Messrs J Paget and G .Rivers; secretary, Mr L Evan; Mr W Laidlaw. The Borough Council have closed with Mr Rivers, or rather accepted the oSer, pending the result of a poll by ratepayers, in regard to the water scheme, Mr Bivers offers to supply the borough with one head ot water ior £3OOO. At first glance this stems to be a stiff piice, yet when one takes into consideration the (money that is being spent yearly on the Chatto Creek race in the way of maintenn ance, and further that Mr Kiveis will maintain the race at his own cost (thus freeing the Borough from any liability jn that direction), one is forced to the conclusion that this scheme is the best par excellence- All the councillors, bar one> gave it their hearty ap* proval. and it now rests with rate* payers to adopt it or oxheswise,.
