LONDON, September 1. Some women looted the town of Jagersfontein, and conveyed everything of value to their farms.. , .. t Measles are raging in the concentration camps. Of 1,067 deaths during July 860 were children. Everything is being done for the comfort of the sufferers, regardless of cost. Brigadier Sir John Dartnell commands a column of irregular horse, Major Karri Davis accompanying it. The object of the column is to chase De Wet. In a fight at Joskraal on the 28th August five British were killed and twelve wounded. The Waterval-Hamanskraal train was derailed in a cutting. The Boers, firing at close quarters, killed ten and wounded seventeen out of an escort of forty-five, chiefly belonging to the Yorkshire (West Riding) Regiment. Captain H. N. Schofield, of the Artillery, has been awarded the Victoria Cross for bravely at Colenso. Goods for commercial purposes to the value of one million have been imported into the Transvaal during the half-year ended June. The Minister of Mines and Native Affairs, the Postmaster-General, and the Directors of Railways and Education in the Transvaal have been transferred to more convenient offices in Johannesburg, where Lord Milner's official residence will be. The Government secretary and the legal and financial advisers remain in Pretoria.. All the families of those Boers who are on commando from henceforth will be transferred to the refugee camps along the coast. The railways will by this arrangement be available for feeding Johannesburg as before the war. Colonel Spens, whilst bringing in twenty prisoners, 2,400 cattle, and 30,000 sheep to Kroonstad. had a sharp fight with the enemy, wounding nine of them. LONDON, September 2. Many Boers have turned King's evidence in connection with the public court-martial at Pretoria of two oath-breakers. Evidence is forthcoming that the men rejoined and conveyed to the commandos arms and clothing by night. Several trials are pending. Commandants Heitzof ('! Hertzog) and Latigan have evacuated the Colesburg and Petrusville districts, and are now in Orange River Colony. ALBANY, September 3. The Harlech Castle has arrived with a large detachment of returning troopers, including a- number of New Zealanders.
