Cycling.
According to the 'Cyclist,' a great attraction to cyclists visiting the Glasgow Exhibition is a Queensland minei's bicycle used by the maker for prospecting for gold away up in Northern Queensland. The bike, which is a great curiosity, is made almost entirely of wood, and forms part of the Queensland exhibit.
Whilst the Dunlop Tyre Company, Melbourne, are resuscitating the Warnambool to Melbourne road race, their Perth depot are doing the same for Western Australia, they having decided to renew the Beverly Per hj road race, a long distance ro:id event that was very popular in Western Australia a few years back. The date is the 12th October, the same as the Victorian event.
Ferceant Arthur Richardson, the well-known Australian transcontinental cyclist, who rode around this continent on a Dunlop shod cycle, a distance of some eleven thou.-and miles, unattended, in 1899 and has su ; sequently served with distinction with the West Australian Contingent, in the South African war, has had a great honor conferred upon him.. At a brilliant ceremony held at Marlborough House, London,l recently, Richardson attended before their Majesties
the King and Queen, and received a medal for his services in South Africa. Ihe Victorian 25-mile inter-cub road Picmiership contest was held on the Donnybrook Road last Saturday fortnight, '.'• e 3rd insr, under most favorable conditions. Some five hundred cyclists rode out to the starting-point to witness the start and finish of the contest, for which thirteen du 1 shad entered representative teams of lour riders each. The individual winner of the race turned up in a Dunlop rider, T. Finne-.an, of the Victory Club. The second and third places were filled by J. Brooker, (Port Mels bourne) and W. Sadler (Northern District) respectively. The win. ner's time was ihr i6min iSsec. The Northern District Club scored the highest number of points, and consequently hold a lead for the inter-club premiership—the final contest for which wM be held on the 7th September, over a distance of 50 miles. Several minor accidents were reported, but nothing of a serious character occurred to mar the success of the contest. Winter time and roads are not conducive to fast travelling, but H. B, James, of the Dunlop lyre Co whilst motoring] through the Western District (Victoria) just lately, making arrangements for the Dunlop Race from Warrnam--1 00l to Melbourne, had a fine and last run from sexeral points on. the road race route.
